Sports Massage

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a targeted, therapeutic form of massage that focuses on the muscles, tendons and soft tissues used during exercise and everyday movement. It uses a combination of deeper pressure, stretching and specific techniques to relieve tension, improve mobility and support recovery.

Who is it for?

You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage. It can help if you:

  • Train regularly or play sports

  • Have a physically demanding job

  • Sit for long periods at a desk

  • Feel tight, stiff or restricted in certain areas

The aim is always the same: to help you move more freely and comfortably.

Benefits of sports massage:

Sports massage can help to:

  • Reduce muscle tension, soreness and stiffness

  • Improve flexibility and range of motion

  • Support recovery after training, competition or injury

  • Help prevent future injuries by addressing muscle imbalances

  • Enhance overall performance and body awareness

What to expect in a session:

Initial assessment (75-90 minutes)

Nathan will start with a brief chat about your goals, any problem areas and relevant medical history. He’ll then collect baseline data, which may include taking measurements (such as range of movement or specific muscle length tests) so he can assess improvement after your first massage. This initial treatment helps identify which techniques your body responds to best and allows Nathan to see any immediate changes in comfort, mobility or performance.

Follow-up massage sessions (60 minutes)

Follow-up sessions are typically recommended every two weeks at first. This spacing allows enough time for your body to respond to the treatment, for any soreness to settle and for you to notice changes in how you move and feel, while still maintaining momentum with your progress. In these sessions, Nathan will review your baseline markers, focus on any ongoing or new areas of tension and adjust techniques as needed. You may also be given simple stretches, mobility work or self-care advice to help maintain results between appointments and support your training or activity.
